Teletherapy with ABC

Is Teletherapy appropriate for my child?

The likely answer is yes, though we know that can be hard to imagine! When a clinician reaches out to you this week, they will discuss the likelihood of success with teletherapy for your child. ABC has never taken a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy and we won’t do that now. Your child’s individual situation will be considered.

Will my insurance cover teletherapy?

Most insurances have confirmed coverage for teletherapy. Coverage, and your co-pay, will remain the same as with traditional therapy. We will provide more individual information when we contact you this week, including how to pay your co-pay.

What do I need for teletherapy?

A device with a camera and mic and internet access. Most PCs, laptops, tablets, even phones will work. A calm, quiet space is helpful if its available. Simple, step-by-step instructions for accessing the teletherapy platform will be provided to you.

Will we have the same clinician? Time slot?

There is a chance that you will receive therapy from a different clinician. It is likely that your time slot will change. We will do everything we can to make this adjustment easy for you and your child, but our focus will be on providing services to families as efficiently as possible. When we return to regular operations, our priority will be returning to your regular clinician and time.

Is teletherapy basically a conference call?

No! Teletherapy will be interactive and will incorporate fun, visual therapy materials to engage, motivate and reward your child.

Does a caregiver have to participate, too?

Possibly. The degree to which we will need your assistance and participation will depend on your child’s needs. We’ll likely need you present to help direct attention and assist your child. Don’t worry, we know you’ll have distractions and probably other children to tend to.

What if I don’t want teletherapy for my child?

We’re confident teletherapy can be successful for nearly all our clients. We hope you’ll give it a try. For those whom teletherapy is not deemed appropriate, we will have a limited amount of in-person therapy appointments available and will continue to provide them so long as we feel is safe for our clinicians.

Two of our sons attend ABC Pediatric Therapy, one for almost the last two years and the other for the last few months. The progress that our son with autism has made is amazing. He used to hardly speak; now he’s the most talkative child of our three boys. I’m just awed by the small steps that have amounted to huge leaps of progress for him. Our son who has been attending for a few months has a stutter, and Zac has made him feel so at ease. I think he’s doing great. We would never go anywhere but ABC! - Parent
